Beach Houses, Heist, Belgium

Brusseldorf

One weekend in September 2008, myself and a couple of mates decided to do a random little Euro roadtrip, going to places we'd never been (or really thought of going) before. Mainly Dusseldorf, because it sounded very German and Brussels, because it was on the way. Hence us christening the trip Brusseldorf. We passed through five countries and amongst other things it proved a good opportunity to use up an old disposable camera and the more interesting of the photos can be seen by clicking the beach houses on the left.

Japan

After journeying around China (see below) I also paid a visit to Japan, spending 10 days in a variety of places, from Tokyo to Kyoto and from the Fuji Rock Festival to Koyasan, home of Shingon Buddhism. A fascinating place, that has learnt to balance the traditional with the brand new and cutting edge. My albums reflect this and are split into photos of Old Japan and New (see if you can guess which photo on the left links to which album).

China Travels

In July 2008, I flew out to Beijing to join my brother who had been studying there for a year. From Beijing we went down to Chongqing and joined the Yangtze River before travelling across the rest of the country, ending up in Shanghai. Top left is a collage I put together of some of the Communist Propaganda you can still find for sale on the streets. Below this are four images from different albums I have created from some of the photos I took on the journey and they link through to photobucket where the rest can be seen. From top to bottom the albums are: Cityscapes; Chinese Life; Landscapes and Modes of Transport.

USA Westcoast Roadtrip

In May 2007, together with three guys I had met in Whistler, doing my ski season (see below) we hired a car and drove round the Western states of the USA, hitting several of the amazing National Parks and driving up the California coast. In between we saw all of the major cities (Seattle, Vegas, San Deigo, LA, San Fran) and as has become tradition with my trips, I compiled the scrapbook and journal shown to the left. I also took something like 1000 photos, some of which are shown.

Canada Ski Season

Starting in October 2006 I moved to Whistler, British Columbia to 'do' a ski season until April 2007. In this time I got quite good at snowboarding and worked in the crazy atmosphere of G1 Rentals, the busiest ski rental store in the world's premiere ski resort with a whole bunch people of different nationalities. I designed a hoody for the rental team, shown below left. I also spent quite a bit of time in Vancouver during my season, which is an awesome city I'd love to go back to.

BC & Alberta Canadian Roadtrip

Before my ski season in Whistler, in September 2006, I traveled around the Western provinces of Canada, creating the scrapbook shown to the left. The route was from Vancouver to Calgary, via Vancouver Island, Whistler, Wells Gray Park, Jasper and Banff, which enabled me to see the big outdoors of the country: big mountains, big lakes, big waterfalls and loads of trees.

Rubbish Postcards of Amsterdam

Amsterdam

The chronicle of my University trip to Amsterdam in the second year took the form of a turning my photos into a series of postcards, inspired by the really bad touristy postcards you can find in any major city.

Paris Mini-Book

Paris

From my several trips to Paris, I have made a mini-book focusing on the architecture of the place; run off several films of disposable camera; and taken photos of the deserted city at night.
